How to make your Teen Girl Happy {A room makeover}

How to make your teen girl happy with a room makeover

Do you want to know How to make your Teen Girl HappyYou give her what she wants, of course!

A room makeover with everything she loves…

Gold, Glam, Fun, Fashion and New York City!

Ok…you can’t really put NYC in her room when you live in a small town far from the Big Apple BUT you can give a girl a dream filled with memories of her trips to NYC!

You see, my girl is thirteen, and she dreams of living the the city…New York City to be exact!

We have taken her there 2 times already and she navigates those streets like a local.

So when it came time to makeover her room,

I knew exactly what we would do!

I haven’t painted her room in 4 years…an eternity for a woman who loves to paint 🙂

First up was Mindful Gray paint for the walls.  (My new FAVORITE color!) Then the rest of her room makeover was LOTS of projects!  Too many to describe in one post.

Some of the projects included painting her childhood bed with Maison Blanche Chalk Paint, gold spray painted table, the fur covered stool, T shirt that got framed, the custom finger painted hearts, the gold lamp revamp, the Duct Tape Art, and MORE!

For now, I hope you are inspired by lots of pictures.

(I will include where I purchased some items at the end of the post with affiliate links)

  1. its beautiful if only you switched the pink for maybe a baby blue….blue is my favorite color

  2. I did use Maison Blanche Paint on this bed and waxed it after but I will be honest, I was not pleased with it. The bottom of the bed looks blue which I assume is where my daughter sits and the blue from her denim pants rubs off on to the bed. BUT I think this could be because of the white. I have made my own chalk finish paint and I am really pleased with it. https://athomewiththebarkers.com/homemade-chalk-finish-paint/

  3. You used chalk paint on the bed? It looks shiny to me, did you wax it afterward? I have a used headboard/footboard and plan to make it over/paint it on Wednesday. I want to do it white, but was probably going to get an eggshell or shiny paint… but maybe I will “make” some chalk paint. Any advice?

  4. 🙂 It’s a nice piece and a treasure for your daugher I would imagine.

  5. Very nice!!! I love it! I looked for the dresser that was your husband’s and didn’t find it. Did I miss it or did you mean the chest of drawers was your husband’s when he was a little boy?

  6. I have a Sarah Beth also (Sarah Elisabeth). She is 14 and I stumbled on your blog through Pinterest. We are redoing her room and know she will have grey walls, black and white, and a pop of color. This is perfect. Thanks for the inspiration. Maybe I missed it, but did you make the fur cover for the stool? We will need to recover a zebra print one 🙂

  7. Thanks Kris! Just found your blog (it’s great by the way) and I’ve been looking around…Hope your moving and settling in is coming along well.

  8. No problem ! I’ve been looking for ideas for my new room and this one really caught me eye !

  9. Love it!!! Great job as always. Looks just like my 3rd daughter. 🙂

  10. Looks like you should have one happy girl at your house. Love the pink and black together. So many cute accessories.

  11. Thanks Susan…the Mood Fabric bag framed would have been great too except we bought lots of fabric and it was a BIG bag, LOL!

  12. Oh, this must be your teen’s dream! What a thoughtful mom you are!!!! I love how you put touches of NYC in her room! Beautiful and fun!

  13. I already have sleepless nights just thinking about it 🙂 I know it is so expensive, she says she will only stay for a summer. We will see. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and taking time to comment.

  14. I came over from Kim’s party and what a nice change to see a young girls room decorated in something other then Paris…LOL…..you did a great job…all its missing is (in metal) the Statue of Liberty…I did see her picture…as for you daughter who’s only 13 wanting to live in NYC someday….maybe you can convince her that’s not such a good idea….My daughter has lived there since she graduated from law school in 2000….she seems to love it except for what it costs….$5500.00 a month for her apartment (2br2bath) Bacon is $10 a pound…crazy prices……..but as a mother…you will have many sleepness nights…. 🙂

  15. Love the idea of framing the t-shirt, mac bag and the playbill! Totally genius! The rooms looks great, perfect for a teen girl, sophisticated yet still young. Great job!

  25. Sonya,

I’m new to your blog. You did a fantastic job on your daughter’s room. Our daughter’s are almost the same age, Celine is 12 and will be 13 in October. Maybe I will finish her room for her 13th birthday, I’ve got to get busy because I have less than 6 months! LOL Thanks for the great inspiration.
