Trust and Obey Purpose Filled Home

When I was a little girl standing in church beside my grandmother, Nanny as she was called, the old hymnal Trust and Obey was my favorite song to sing. I loved it yet I don’t think I really knew why back then. Maybe it was the simplicity. Trust and obey, two simple words. As a child things are much more black and white.

Just do it.

Just trust and obey.

Joshua 1:9 says, “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

My goal when I created this blog was to share my faith in Jesus more. To share how he shapes me as a wife, mother, homemaker, etc. I’ve not been shy about my love for Jesus but I’ve also not trusted or obeyed his calling totally for this blog. The longing I’ve had keeps getting pushed to the side while telling myself, faith and business don’t mix. People won’t care about Jesus and room makeovers in the same place. In reality, maybe everyone doesn’t.

I wasn’t trusting.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

I’ve wanted this blog to be successful. In the world we live in, myself included, success is equated to money. Therefore if this blog isn’t making lots of money it must not be successful. Don’t get me wrong, I need this blog to earn money. I even wrote about blogging, decorating and money. Money will help us put kids through college and save for retirement. I didn’t listen to God as these thoughts would fill my soul for intertwining HIM in the creating of our home as I share it with you.

I wasn’t obeying.

I want this blog to be an inspiration to moms who want a purpose filled home. In my world, that can’t happen without Jesus front and center. My new approach to blogging and sharing with you will have that thought front and center. Don’t be confused, I am not turning the blog into a devotional. It will still be full of home decor, DIY and plenty of projects. I will however, share my heart with you all as the Lord leads.

I believe that we struggle way more with why than how. I have shared hundreds of post on the blog over 4 years teaching you the how. My hope is to add more of the why into the creating of our home and share it with you as well.

Purposed Filled Home

Neutral Christmas Home Tour

My dream is for this blog to become a resource of inspiration to create a home that’s pretty and functional while being filled with grace and love.

‘Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.’

We are in this together after all,

Sonya

Well said Sonya! In the wise words of Dr. Charles Stanley … “obey the Lord and leave all the consequences to Him”. Words to live by.

Love hearing your thoughts on this! I’ve wanted to start a blog for years now and this is one area I wrestle with…my love and passion for the Lord intertwined with how that shapes me as a designer and homemaker. Whenever I do start a blog I want it, above all else, to glorify my Savior and I don’t think I’ve understood how to effectively do this until lately. I have felt much more ready to jump in because I know my purpose is clear and I believe I can keep Him front and center (hopefully). Thank you for sharing Sonya. That’s always been one of my favorite hymns too.

I’m so glad you can relate! Blogging is hard but I love it. If you are really considering it I would highly recommend my friend Abby’s ecourse. She just gave it a huge overhaul and it is amazing. There is a special price until this Thursday the 16th before a price increase. This is my affiliate link but I would never recommend something I didn’t own and find value in. It will help you create a great blog right from the start. https://www.abbylawson.com/a/3617/JDNmJgKx Before you consider buying there is free training each night this week to help you decide. You can see that here https://www.abbylawson.com/a/3600/JDNmJgKx

Aw friend, God is so big and full of grace! He’s been using you to share his message all along, but I totally understand how you need to listen and obey. Sometimes those reminders are all we need to get back on track! He clearly blesses the work that you’re doing here and I look forward to your upcoming posts!

This reminder came in handy just as I was struggling with some anxious thoughts..although I was reminding myself not to be anxious..God bless you and just know that even across the miles, you have obediently blogged and inspired others with your simple encouragement to trust and obey..I am going to sleep now humming this beautiful hymn…
