Under Cabinet Lighting

When it comes to bathroom upgrades, under cabinet lighting is one of those simple additions that makes a big impact. Think of how this subtle change is functional yet totally elevates the space.

Whether you’re updating your primary bath or you just need the extra glow-up, here’s why you’ll want to add an undermount light bar.

Why You Should Add Under Cabinet Lighting

It’s not just about the aesthetics (although that’s a big win too). Here’s why I recommend it:

  • Soft nighttime glow: No more blinding overhead lights when you’re sneaking in for a midnight trip to the bathroom. Under cabinet lights create a warm, low-level glow that’s easy on sleepy eyes.
  • Adds a luxe, custom feel: These lights give your bathroom a polished, high-end look—like a spa or boutique hotel. But you can totally DIY it on a budget.
  • Highlights beautiful flooring: If you’ve put time (and money) into choosing the perfect tile or wood-look floors, under cabinet lighting helps show it off.
  • Improves visibility without shadows: It adds just enough extra lighting at the base of your vanity, perfect for tasks like shaving or grabbing a towel.
  • Can be motion-activated: One of my favorite features—especially in kids’ or guest bathrooms. No one has to fumble for a switch.

Under no circumstance will I add any lighting to our home that doesn’t come with color options. I need the warm light. It just makes me feel most comfortable. The Adjustable Light Bars I bought from Lowe’s Home Improvement offer so many options of light temperature. Plus they are dimmable and come with a remote for easy adjusting.

Warm or Cool Glow

Light temperature makes a big difference in how your room looks and feels. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the best one:

  • 2700K – Warm White
Cozy, soft glow similar to candlelight or incandescent bulbs. Great for creating a spa-like feel but may be too dim for task lighting.
  • 3000K – Soft White
My go-to for most bathrooms. It’s warm without being yellow and gives a clean, inviting vibe—perfect for early mornings and late nights.
  • 4000K – Bright White
Crisp and more modern. If your bathroom has a lot of white finishes or chrome, this will keep things feeling fresh and clean.
  • 5000K – Daylight
Very bright and cool—great for detailed grooming tasks, but can feel a little clinical if overused. I’d skip this one for under cabinet lighting unless you’re pairing it with similarly cool overheads.

The light bar can be temporarily installed with the command strip or screwed in for a more permanent fixture. I wanted mine to be screwed in but that wasn’t possible with my cabinet overhang. So I used this double-sided mounting tape for mine instead. It let me install my cabinet lights with a stronger adhesive.

Other places to consider installing these type of lights:

  • Closets
  • Gargage
  • Kitchen
  • Kids room
