31 Days Meal Planning

Day 7: Meal Planning

We can all agree that when we have a dinner plan in place our evening time runs SO much smoother.  I admit, I don’t love to cook and when there isn’t a plan in place, that could mean cereal for dinner.  Although I have been trying to be a better meal planner, I haven’t been very consistent. That inconsistency is what causes so much disorder around my home.

This week I have a plan.  First I sat down and made some notes.  I broke my meals up into three categories: Go to Meals, Special Meals and New Meals to try (like all these I have on my Recipes to try Pinterest Board.)  This is a great time to ask your husband and kids if they have a meal to add to the list.  I also took into consideration my families weekly schedule.  For instance, Monday night is an away cross country meet, there’s a dentist appointment, youth church services, etc.

So, with all of this in mind I came up with a Menu for this week.  I wanted some place to write it all down so that I could then see what I would need from the grocery store.  I found a basic free printable one from I heart nap time.  {Free Printable link}

There are so many free printable menu’s, just do a Google or Pinterest search to find the one that meets your needs best.

AND if you have any awesome recipes I can try share them in the comments section. I am feeling this is a great start to my week already!

  1. I ask my family this same question in regards to new meals !

  2. I would like to add to this in saying that if you use a printable menu to put it in a sheet protector and use dry erase markers. Green your organizing!

  3. I’m finally catching up with my blog reading today, and just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I’m enjoying your Bring This Home to Order series! This particular post about meal planning hits really close to home. I have found that if I don’t meal plan, we eat cereal here, too! Can’t wait to read the rest of the posts in this series. I have so many project irons in the fire right now that our home is just absolute chaos. You’ve inspired me to focus in on what needs to be done right now to get our home back to its peaceful homey feel.

  4. Thanks for the link to the shopping list; so helpful to have the menu and grocery list in one place. It’s a great idea to use a day to cook a new dish. A coworker told me that when she makes a new recipe, she asks her family, “Is this something you would like me to make again?” Just a simple yes or no – no need to hurt the cooks feelings with a critique, so you don’t end up repeating something you think everyone loves – but they don’t!
    This a great project and I am watching the crafts room closely as we just downsized, but with a bigger space for a home office/hobby room, which I’m really excited about.
