Christmas Home Tour

Welcome to my Christmas Home Tour.  There’s something magical about Christmas.  Maybe it’s the twinkling lights on the tree late at night when all of the other lights in the house are turned off or it’s seeing your children’s face light up when they run down the stairs on Christmas morning.

Just maybe, it’s the idea of feeling like a kid, ALL over again! I’ve always loved traditions…doing things the same way from year to year makes Christmas magical to me! Sitting with my husband and kids while we talk about “last year” is the best.  Passing on things our families did when we were little in hopes that our children will one day pass it on to our grandchildren.

Decorating for Christmas is also about tradition to me and my family.  When we were first married and our budget was very tight, my husband and I would shop the day after Christmas to buy all of our holiday decorations at 80% off.  We still use them all.  Since the kids were little we’ve made ornaments…homemade ornaments make me happy!

AND the stockings, we use the same one’s every year too!  The twine wrapped monogram letters are new this year, though.  I picked them up at Target.  The gold star on the tree is also from Target.  I had always wanted one and every year my husband and I looked…finally when the kids where toddlers we found it! We have used it every year since.  The kids take turns from year to year placing it on the tree.

I have a thing for Santa.  You can see this by my fun collection of Santa ornaments.  This one here is more festive.  I bought him when we lived in San Antonio, Texas and it’s special because our kids were born there.

Christmas Tour Tree and Sign

Each year I only change up a few things when I decorate for Christmas.  My gift wrap, ribbon colors and maybe some accessories that I sit around the house.  This year I added little miniature trees all around.  You can see this years gift wrap selections here and my wooden holiday signs I made here.

I used the mini trees on the coffee table.

In my dining room I went a little more woodlands with a touch of red! The white owl is one of my favorite little guys. I also hung my DIY wooden deer painting I made above my red dresser. AND added more little trees and the centerpiece.

There are so many creative and crafty projects around on Pinterest but you can never go wrong making a paper garland.  It was as easy as when I made them as a kid!

  12. Thanks for sharing your home with us, Sonya! I love the story about when you bought clearance decorations and how you display homemade ornaments. We hardly ever buy new decorations – except for this year – I just have always had a hard time spending money on it, ya know? And I still have some of my own (and my husband’s) homemade ornaments from long ago! They certainly do have a special place in my heart! 🙂

Thanks for sharing your home!

  14. All you crafty DIY’ers put my house to shame. I can’t even decorate normally with getting pics of my family on the wall, much less a lovely home decorated for the holidays! HA! Your house looks great!
