Tips for selecting Gift Wrap

Gift Wrap Tips

I thought I would share my Tips for selecting Gift Wrap with all of you.

I love printed paper…I think it stems from my love of fabric. I always have scrapbook paper, gift wrap and fabric on hand… AT ALL TIMES!

TIP #1

There are so many options out there to choose from but be sure to buy heavy duty gift wrap.  You have all had that paper that is so flimsy it rips when you are trying to cut it.  My favorite is the Brother Sister design studio brand from Hobby Lobby.  Of course, I always wait until it is 50% off week. That is when I buy ribbons as well.  The back of the paper has the dotted lines so that you can measure out the size you need and cut it in a straight line. I don’t know about you but this is great for me!

Tip #2

When choosing your patterns be sure to pick one’s that can also be used all year round for other gift giving times.  These are big rolls of gift wrap so they go along way.  This will save you time and money.

Tip #3

Mix patterns! The best way to do this is by keeping the patterns close in size.  I like to mix in groups of three, odd numbers are good in decorating and let’s face it, gift wrap is under the tree decorating at Christmas!

Tip #4

Use your gift wrap for crafts and DIY projects.  Black and white stripe has been one of my favorites for a few years now.  You can see how I used it on a thrift store lamp makeover and custom wall art.

I like simple ribbons and name tags.  I use basic solid ribbons in different colors and sizes.  For name tags I just stamp right onto card stock paper, super simple.

Gift Wrap Tips and Supplies

I hope these tips for selecting gift wrap help you. Now I’m curious, do you love paper (any kind) as much as I do?  Share any of your tips in the comments so we can all benefit.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss…thank you for sharing how God is continuing to send special memories to you. My prayers are with you.

  2. Our son, Kevin, passed away 8-6-14, at 48 with a heart attack and we have had 4 God Winks. He lived in Ohio and our Niece found a luggage tag with his name on it a month later. I was showing a friend a plant we received from Ohio which had tear drops hanging from each leaf on a really bad day as his Mother. Our daughter was shopping and a Mother and daughter and son discussed what they would name a puppy while checking out, and, one said Russell and the other said Kevin and his name is Kevin Russell. The fourth one happened before Christmas when our daughter was wrapping presents. She came to the end of the roll and pulled out the tube and said “Kevin and I used to have sword fights with these”. A little later she looked down at the back of the paper and it said, Brother❤️Sister Design Studio. All of these are amazing and must be messages from Angels. Just had to share!

  3. Costco has great gift wrap paper also. Heavy duty and in some cases two sided. Tip for making the bow. When you time the first over under knot take the ribbon that pokes out from the bottom first to make the loops. It stays better and the knot will not unravel as easily.

  4. These are wonderful tips! I am jealous that you have a Hobby Lobby near you with such a wonderful selection of paper. Sadly, I’ve never been in a Hobby Lobby. 🙁

Buying paper patterns that can be used year round is such a good idea! I’m going to remember this the next time I need to buy paper. (I have such a stock pile that I’m probably good for many, many years.)

  5. Love your tips Sonya. You know I love wrapping presents and this will help keep me in line!
