Kitchen Makeover One Room Challenge Week 3
This is the week of the challenge where I’ve realized I still have a ton to do! It’s also the week of the mundane and not so pretty pictures. If this is your first time visiting my blog I am smack dab in the middle of my Kitchen Makeover One Room Challenge week 3! You can check out week 1 and week 2 in order to see how this all started.

This week I started my prep work on my cabinets. Making sure to clean them well is a big deal before applying paint. I decided to give KRUD KUTTER and it worked great for getting all the dust and grease off. I read an article recently that was posted on the Today Shows website from a professional house cleaner and she used it for everything so I thought I’d give it a try.
Next we removed the trim and baseboards in preparation for the wall planks. I will be using the same planks as I used for my DIY headboard except I will be painting them.
My husband is better at removing them than I am. I’m dangerous with the pry bar.

Hopefully we will have a break in the rain this week so we can go pick the wood planks tomorrow. I am ready to get started on the good stuff.

You’ve taken on a huge project, but you are making progress and I’m sure the end results will be stunning!
You are well on your way to your awesome new kitchen! I can’t wait to see the cabinets and plank walls! Good luck!
I haven’t tried Krud Kutter, but I cleaned mine with a basic degreaser (Scrubbing Bubbles MAX, I think), and it wasn’t hard at all. If you let it sit for 15-30 seconds, it usually comes off pretty easily!
I’m obsessed with plank walls so I can’t wait to see it!
Looks like everything coming along real good, i am getting excited about what you are doing, have a good and productive day.
First, I’m going to have to check out that Krud Kutter stuff- my cabinets above the oven are so gross and I can’t seem to ever get all the grease off them. Did stuff come off easily, or was there a lot of elbow grease used? Also love the plank wall you did in your bedroom- can’t wait to see it in here.
Those planks will be amazing, Sonya!
thanks for the tip on the krud kutter….i will have to get some of that! can’t wait to see your plank wall…i have been wanting to do one somewhere in our house, just haven’t figured out where yet. good luck this week!
Every time I paint kitchen cabinets it does get easier! Prepping only leads to the good part right?!
For Sure Leslie! I had planned another water only wipe down just people painting.
I used a similar product to clean my cabinets before I painted them. Just make sure you wipe all the cleaner off well too. And a bit of FYI the paint is holding up great!
I can’t wait to see the wood planks in place! When I painted my cabinets I found the hardest part was prepping them after that. . .it’s a breeze!
