What Color Is Sherwin Williams Sea Salt?
At first glance, Sea Salt looks like a pale green. But it’s actually a complex blend of green, gray, and a hint of blue, which is why it shifts beautifully in different lighting. It can change from home to home and also room to room in the same home.
In bright natural light, the green tones come forward. In rooms with less light or warmer bulbs, it can look more subdued or grayer. This chameleon quality is what makes Sea Salt so versatile—but also why it’s essential to sample it before committing.
You can paint samples directly on the wall or use the peel and stick paint sample. I highly recommend the peel and stick. It’s real paint, a large size and you can move it from room to room. If you want to learn how to paint a room top to bottom I got you.

Tips for Sampling Sea Salt
Because this color is so responsive to lighting, I always recommend testing a large swatch in your home. Here are a few tips:
- Paint a poster board and move it around the room
- Look at it in morning, afternoon, and evening light
- Hold it next to your floors, cabinets, and upholstery to see how undertones shift
If you love the look of Sea Salt in photos, be sure to test it—sometimes the green shows up stronger than you’d expect.

Sea Salt can look green, blue or gray depending on the lighting. You can try changing the type of light bulbs. A warmer bulb could potentially help.
Just painted a small bathroom (no windows) with Sea Salt and it flipped blue. Any suggestions??
I don’t see the color Sparkling Lake on SW so I can’t reference that one but to me Sea Salt doesn’t feel like a hug, lol. It’s can be all kinds of color in bright sun. Look into Oyster Bay to see if that would work. For sure bring home paint samples to test in the room.
Hi!! I’ve been searching for the perfect color for my home office. I keep coming back to Sea Salt. I want something warm and cozy. like a warm 🤗 hug. Can you tell me if this would be a good option? I was also looking at Sparkling Lake. It gets alit of morning and afternoon sun. Not a real big room. I’m also looking for accent colors for the trim and doors. Thank you
Hi! Thanks for your blog post and ideas! We have sea salt in our south facing living room and LOVE it. We want to paint our adjacent dining room a shade of pink, but are having trouble finding a good match. The dining room is an interior room so has no windows and skews dark. Any suggestions? We’ve tried Rose Colored and Innocence but they weren’t quite right. Otherwise we might pivot and go with a white/neutral. Thanks for any thoughts!
I have linked everything below each photo. I just doubled checked and had missed one so I have updated it. You should be able to scroll the post and shop the link below the photo color board you are interested in.
I saw one of your palettes using sea salt and I was loving the wallpaper used. Do you have listings for the wallpaper that are available to share?
