3 Decorating Secrets for Fall

Try these 3 fall home decorating secrets to create a cozy home this season. Most of these tips don’t involve spending money.

It’s been very hard for me to get any fall decorating inspiration going on around my house until after Labor Day. Although it is still hot and humid, I’m looking forward to lower temps soon but now that football season is underway, it’s fall in my book.

To help get us all inspired I thought I’d look back over some past fall decor and share quick decorating tips for the season. It helps me see what I loved and would like to use again as well as what I would like to change up.

I don’t go out and buy very much seasonal decor, so I mostly reuse things in a new way. Using the idea of my best fall home decor elements keeps me on track.

Tip #1: Reuse and Restyle

Last year I painted some plastic pumpkins and I still love them so I will definitely be pulling those out. I used them on my mantel and styled it with all neutral tones. The faux lemon topiaries I have had for many years but I did change up the pot with paint. Thinking up new ways to use items I’ve had for years is a thrill for me.

If you’ve always placed certain season items in the same place year after year, make them feel new again by moving them to a new spot, change out a ribbon color or add a fresh coat of paint. It’s a great way for no spend decorating.

Tip #2: Greenery from the yard

I carried the natural look into my dining room last year as well. I cut rosemary from my yard to put in mason jars and it provided a pretty natural element as well as a lovely smell.

I tried out two options on my vintage scale by reusing and restyling items I already owned (tip #1), the pumpkin a friend gave me and the coffee mugs are from my wedding dishes.

Greenery can be any clippings from the yard. It all looks amazing. I would make sure it doesn’t have any critters or bugs on it. I also love using pine cones and sticks.

Tip #3: Think outside of the box

Use everyday home items in new ways.  I took an outdated lamp shade and ripped the fabric off.  It had a stain on it. It made a fun and unique pumpkin stand on my kitchen table. Another reuse item! See, I told you I get a thrill out of finding new ways to use old things.

This tip is especially great for me after going through the Konmari Method Organizing Book because I only keep what I love now so I don’t have tons of things to choose from. I highly recommend it!
